The Montana Public Employee Headlines

2009 MEETING SITE

MPEA members attending this year's annual Meeting in Billings selected Lewistown as the site for the 2009 Annual Meeting.

Next year's Annual meeting will be held in Kalispell and the 2008 Annual Meeting is scheduled for Bozeman.

Incumbent Regional Directors Re-elected

                Incumbent Regional Directors from Billings, Helena and Great Falls were nominated to MPEA’s Board of Directors, without opposition, at the May 5 and 6 Annual Meeting in Billings. Each will serve another two-year term.

                Sheryl Stinchfield will again represent members in the Billings region, an area that includes all members with zip codes that begin 590, 591 or 593. Stinchfield has been a Board member since 1997 and she also serves on the Employees Political Information Committee (EPIC). Stinchfield is a member of the Yellowstone County Public Assistance Office. She has also served as President of the Montana Eligibility Workers Association.

                Steve VanTighem, Great Falls, was also nominated without opposition. He was first elected to represent MPEA members in his region in 1998 and has been re-elected since. VanTighem is a Great Falls native and has worked for  Job Service since 1977. VanTighem represents all MPEA members with zip codes that begin with 592, 594 and 595.

                Bob Silberling will represent Helena area members on the Board. Silberling has been on the Board since 1999. As a member of MPEA’s State Fund Chapter, Silberling has been involved in many of the changes in its way of doing business. Silberling represents all MPEA members with a zip code that begins with 596.

                MPEA Bylaws provide that those qualified members nominated unopposed at the Annual Meeting are elected.

 

Members at Annual Meeting Increase Dues

MPEA dues were increased $2 per month by MPEA members attending the Annual Meeting May 5 and 6 in Billings.

Retirement Members Want Benefits Maintained

Through a policy resolution, MPEA members at the Billings Annual Meeting this month have instructed staff of MPEA to initiate legislation to increase the funding necessary to pay off the unfunded liability of the public employees, sheriffs and game warden and police officers retirement systems.
